Dr. Reef is the technical lead for rubella and CRS epidemiology in the MMR team in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at CDC. She has been the technical lead for rubella and CRS in the US since 1996. She has published numerous articles on rubella and CRS in the US. She has also worked extensively with the Pan American Health Organization in promoting rubella and CRS elimination in the Western Hemisphere. In addition, Dr. Reef has worked extensively with WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office in prompting rubella and CRS control.

Morbidity Surveillance After Hurricane Katrina --- Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas, September 2005 - MMWR Report - July 7
Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast on August 29,2005. One goal of public health responders was to identify and prevent hurricane-related morbidity and mortality among affected populations, especially among those with limited access to health care and those who were living in crowded conditions. This report summarizes the challenges of conducting national surveillance after Hurricane Katrina, focusing on the role of CDC in coordinating surveillance and consolidating and interpreting morbidity data from jurisdictions that used diverse surveillance approaches.

Initial Medical Screening and Ongoing Public Health Surveillance in Hurricane Evacuation Centers - Updated July 7
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending an initial medical intake in evacuation centers housing hurricane evacuees, to be followed by ongoing public health surveillance. This guidance is intended specifically for persons in evacuation centers and does not necessarily apply to evacuees who may be in other residential settings.
Early Warning Infectious Disease Surveillance (EWIDS) Program Activities on the Northern and Southern Border States - July 6
In 2003, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) designated $5 million per year to be allocated to the northern and southernstates bordering Canada and Mexico for the Early Warning Infectious Disease Surveillance System. The existing Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Public Health Emergency Preparedness Cooperative Agreement is the funding mechanism for the twenty states that have chosen to participate.
