CDC Press Release: Outbreak of Cholera in Haiti: Family and Friends Traveling to Haiti Should Take Precautions While Celebrating All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day This Year (Oct 29)
As many Haitian-Americans go to Haiti to visit family and friends to celebrate All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reminds travelers to take precautions to protect themselves from cholera, which has been spreading in Haiti since October 21.

Travelers' Health - Advice about Cholera for Travelers Arriving in the United States from Haiti (Oct 29)
People most often get cholera by drinking water or eating food that has cholera germs in it. Water can be contaminated with the feces of a person sick with cholera.

MMWR Dispatch (Oct 28)
Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) October 28, 2010 / Vol. 59 /Dispatch. An outbreak of cholera is ongoing in Haiti. As of October 27, a total of 4,722 cholera cases and 303 deaths had been reported. Most cases have been reported from the Artibonite Department, a rural but densely settled area with several small urban centers.

Travelers' Health - Outbreak Notice, Cholera in Haiti (Oct 25)
An epidemic cholera strain has been confirmed in Haiti, causing the first cholera outbreak in Haiti in many years. Cholera is a potentially fatal bacterial infection that causes severe diarrhea and dehydration.

Cholera Confirmed in Haiti, October 21, 2010 (Oct 22)
An outbreak of cholera was confirmed in Haiti on October 21, 2010. Cholera had not been documented in Haiti for decades so cholera outbreaks were considered unlikely in Haiti immediately following the earthquake in January, 2010.
